Lexical classes
Classes include ㄷ 걷다→걸어, ㅂ 돕다→도와, 르 모르다→몰라, ㅅ 낫다→나아, ㅎ 파랗다→파란, and 우 푸다→퍼.
Sharing a coda does not generalize the rule to every predicate. The lexicon must declare the class.
Phonological conditions
Substitution is limited to rule-specific environments such as vowel-initial, 아/어, or adnominal endings. 걷고 retains ㄷ while 걸어 substitutes ㄹ.
Hangul onset, nucleus, and coda are decomposed for deletion and vowel combination, then recomposed into syllables.
v:걷다 matches both 걸어 and 걷고, but not 걸고, which incorrectly applies ㄷ-to-ㄹ substitution before a consonant-initial ending.
Rule provenance
Origins preserve lexical and ending steps in order, such as lexical.d-to-l followed by ending.aoeo.
When a suppletive entry and a productive rule yield the same surface form, their origins merge instead of selecting one representative.
